Laparoscopic surgery is a type of endoscopic procedure performed in the abdomen, usually below the diaphragm. Instruments are inserted through small incisions under the guidance of a video camera and a graft can be inserted to bypass an area of obstruction or an aneurysm.

Endolaparoscopic Aortic Surgery

Endolaparoscopic aortic surgery is an alternate way of treating Atherosclerosis in the aorta, as well as aortic aneurysms.

In the Endolaparoscopic approach, three to four small incisions are made in the lower abdomen for the endoscope and instruments. A custom-fitted graft is inserted to provide blood flow again or to exclude the aneurysm.

If a minimally invasive approach is used, the recovery time in the hospital is frequently decreased from the conventional procedure.

The side effects of minimally invasive procedures are generally less severe than those associated with open surgery. However, they can include infection, bleeding, fever, and numbness in the legs and additional clotting (thrombosis) of the blood vessel or rupture of the aneurysm.

Edema/Lymphedema Management

Compression Therapy: Compression Therapy may be prescribed as part of your treatment plan for the Management of Venous and Lymphatic conditions affecting the upper and/or lower extremities.

Compression Therapy is achieved through the use of inelastic bandaging, gradient elastic compression supports , Mechanical Lymph Drainage ( use of a pneumatic compression pump), and/or the use of Manual Lymph Drainage.

Indications for Compression Therapy may include:

  •   Chronic Venous Insufficiency
  •   Stasis Ulceration
  •   "Pre Ulcer" Stasis Cellulitis
  •   Post Surgical Edemas
  •   Sports Injuries
  •   Lymph-edema / Primary and Secondary
  •   Venous Edema
  •   Pre-Surgical volume reduction

Treatment will be initiated on an Ambulatory basis when possible. The severity of the condition and other contributing factors at the time of your office visit with Dr. Martinez will determine if In Hospital treatment is required. If Dr. Martinez determines that your treatment take place In Hospital it will usually be a short admission of approximately 48-72 hours, when possible. (Length of stay is influenced by the severity of pre-admission condition). Your "individualized" treatment plan will include use of the Lymphapress Pneumatic Compression Pump for reduction of fluid volume followed by a fitting with elastic compression support.

Compression Therapy will be provided by Tami Jared, Consultant in Compression Therapy, under the direction of Dr. Martinez.

Dr. Bernardo Martinez has prescribed Compression Therapy in the treatment and management of his patients with successful results for more than 18 years.

Ms. Jared has been treating patients with Compression Therapy on the order of the Physician, for over 11 years.  She is trained in Advanced Compression Therapy treatment and Lymph-edema Management with a background in the engineering and design of the elastic compression supports. Her certification and experience as a Medical Insurance Specialist gives an added insight with assisting in insurance billing issues related to compression therapy and products.
